Finale Ligure (SV), Italy - Design and architectural direction for the renovation of a family villa - 2010

This two-storey building above ground level has 80 square metres of floor space per floor.
The objective of the renovation was to create 3 double rooms, 4 bathrooms, an eat-in kitchen, a study and a living-dining room as large as possible, as well as to create a direct connection to the roof terrace, which previously could only be reached from the outside.
The solution that made it possible to meet the requirements was to build a semi-projecting staircase on the rear front, moving some of the volume of the new staircase outside and recovering the surface area that the original staircase occupied on the two floors to give more breathing space to the interior spaces. The new solution also made it possible to install a small internal lift to connect up to the terrace level.
The distribution of the rooms is fluid and functional, and the tone that has been given to the interiors through the furnishings, many of which are custom-made, and the finishing materials, is contemporary and elegant.
The semicircular volume containing the new staircase has characterised the building’s architectural appearance without altering its formal unity.
The faded pink of the façades has been replaced by a light grey “egg skin” in various shades, which plays nicely with the green of the lawn. The gutters and eaves are made of copper.
