As part of the collaboration with Cushman & Wakefield, our firm took part in the redevelopment and adaptation of Sony Music Italia’s new headquarter.
The chosen building is located in the north of Milan in the multifunctional Maciachini Business Centre.
An important office complex which, thanks to the contribution and expressive freedom of different designers, is pleasantly characterised by a certain “architectural non-homogeneity”, unfortunately not always found in initiatives of this type.
In this district, the building, designed by Italo Rota, lends itself to interpreting the brand’s innovative image with a very strong architectural character. The space is developed on three floors enveloped by an ingenious lozenge-shaped reticular structure in steel and glass that contains the volumes of the offices below.
Inside, the spaces are characterised by uneven heights. Large windows allow natural light to flow in while maintaining the privacy of the workplace.
The alternation of these unexpected heights with more intimate spaces, the long sight lines, and the diagonal lines of the structure and window frames seem to create emotions perhaps closer to those aroused by a cathedral than by an office space.
Acoustic comfort was a challenge in this project. Achieving the levels of acoustic insulation and soundproofing that the client wanted required a painstaking study that necessitated the use of special thicknesses in the vertical walls, special false ceilings and suspended acoustic bollards. In the end, expectations were met and instrumentally verified .
The organisation of the layout shows multiform areas that suggest the formation of alternating work islands. All technological accessories run through “spinewalls” that also accommodate hanging containers. Collaboration areas and meeting rooms are separated and equipped with reservation systems.
On the top floor there is an auditorium with a stage for performances by artists. A large window opens up to the terrace, allowing events and presentations for press, customers and employees.
The Sony Music offices are equipped with three internal recording rooms built according to the most sophisticated criteria that these activities require.
