Milan, Italy - Design of Reckitt Benckiser new offices (in partnership with C&W) - 2008

The Leoni Centre, in which the offices are located, consists of two identical buildings just off Milan’s second ring road, in a former industrial area that has now been heavily redeveloped. The design scheme of the square-plan buildings with a large inner courtyard is marked by the utmost simplicity, and especially for large sizes (here they are three and a half storeys for approx. 8.400 square metres) it suffers above all from too much uniformity, difficult to characterise. In this case, some breaking elements were introduced which, together with an effective graphic design managed directly by the tenants, helped to improve the overall quality.
Oblique coloured walls were inserted in the corners between the bodies and then enriched with large corporate images. The open space segments were carefully alternated with closed offices according to the various departments. In the central body towards the courtyard, wooden volumes projecting 30 cm towards the corridor were added at the entrances, services and storage areas to break up the monotony of the blind wall. Finally, a colour code for the floors was designed to make them more easily recognisable. These are not simply different colours per floor, but groups of colours, one per wall, which create a pleasant contrast between them, taking into account the orientation.
