Rome, Italy - Design consultancy for a legal practice in Rome (in partnership with C&W) - 2019

In 2019 Cushman & Wakefield gave us the opportunity to participate in the restoration and redevelopment into a professional office space in the heart of Rome. The space occupies an entire floor of the Rignano Colonna building opposite the Campidoglio. A magnificent example of Roman Baroque known for having had one corner cut off due to the construction of the Marcello Theatre during the Fascism, giving rise to a new façade with three orders of windows.

The intervention, linked to the precise control of the Superintendence, involved the recovery of a space in poor condition, subject to internal superfetations and stratifications certainly not authorised over the years. The criterion followed in the project was, to simplify, remove the added and add the necessary.

The need to allow a logical distribution of paths was resolved with measured interventions.

All the work was accompanied by a careful recovery of the painted ceilings, the original door decorations of the window shutters and the high frescoed wainscoting. Some recent flooring was removed, while others of historical value were covered with easily removable materials.

Equipping the space with the facilities necessary for the operation of a modern office, for which it was intended was a constant negotiation with the Superintendency, resolved through constant collaboration between the parties.
